Jazz in the Park: Kenji Lee’s Fortune Teller Trio
July 29 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free

Nothing says summer quite like enjoying live music in a beautiful park! This July, The Village Arts Factory invites you to sit back, relax, and soak in summer at Jazz in the Park, a Wednesday evening concert series set in Preservation Park. This week, on July 29th, spend an evening with Kenji Lee’s Fortune Teller Trio.
Kenji Lee is a Japanese-American saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and improviser. His work seeks to embody the vitality of experimentalism while staying diligently rooted in historical practices. His personal approach fuses a trans-idiomatic vocabulary with rich instrumental technique and has garnered the attention of audiences and fellow artists alike. He currently leads the Fortune Teller Trio with bassist Andy Peck and percussionist Jonathan Barahal Taylor. In 2023, Lee released Kyūdō – his debut full-length album. On Kyūdō, Lee’s trio and guest vocalist Estar Cohen gracefully connect their compositions and improvisations to Kyūdō, the Japanese martial art of archery. The album was released to critical acclaim, including one mention asserting that “Lee achieved the principles of truth, goodness and beauty with his music.” (Jazz Trail). Bring your lawn chairs, family, friends, and your appetite! Each week, enjoy live performances in an open-air park, paired with great bites from local food vendors and cold brews at the beer tent. While the music sets the mood, families can explore a themed hands-on art activity every week, making this a great evening for all ages!
