SUMMARY:Gallery Opening & Reception: Collage Art by Carl Davis
DESCRIPTION:Born in Cincinnati\, Ohio\, Carl Davis was fortunate to have grown up in a family that\, although of little means\, had an honest appreciation of a fine quality of life. As a child he spent time learning to draw and paint at The Cincinnati Art Academy and later studied at The Cincinnati Art Museum. Carl Davis later earned a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree at The Ohio State University. \nAfter a long career as an art director in the Midwest and in New York City – where he was Creative Director in Advertising for The New York Times – Davis returned to his first love of painting. \nYears ago\, he traveled throughout southern Europe and Northwest Africa\, Davis became enamored with the religious theme fresco art that since antiquity\, was the vehicle of artistic expression in the countries that border the Mediterranean. Davis drawn to the antique quality\, peeling and fading that comes over time he worked for years to master this painting method. Controlling wet plaster on various surfaces and then create his own interesting textures using dry pigment and marble dust-among other choices of mediums to achieve his desired coloration. \nCarl has exhibited his work in various galleries throughout New York\, Chicago\, California and Europe\, with various celebrities\, organizations and companies collecting his work. \nPost pandemic Davis completes a big step relocating to Canton\, Michigan to reside\, and spend time with his family he brings his passion along with him. Completing this “Juneteenth Series” to represent remembrance of his work throughout his art career\, using archival paper of past work woven into his painted fresco technique on canvas and wood. \nThis series brings full circle the artistic passion of Carl Davis.
