The finished project is approximate 4″ in size. \nThis glass workshop is appropriate for adults of all ages and skill levels; simple enough for a beginner. Influenced by Impressionism yet driven by experimentation\, her paintings reveal layers of depth and emotion that shift with light and perspective. Each piece seems to breathe with its own rhythm — a whisper of vulnerability\, strength\, and transformation. \nOriginally from Belarus\, Hauptmann studied fine art\, art history\, and interior design before turning her focus to painting in 2017. SUMMARY:Art Improvisation Workshop with Kathy Kosins
DESCRIPTION:Improvisation On Canvas is a hands-on\, 3-hour workshop where you’ll paint to jazz music from a curated playlist\, focusing on abstract expression using texture and colors. Inspired by Bebop-era artists like Thelonious Monk\, Charlie Parker\, Dizzy Gillespie\, and Miles Davis\, alongside other modern jazz composers\, you’ll learn to “hear” in color and “listen” for shapes. \nJoin celebrated artist\, musician\, and experienced teacher Kathy Kosins as she leads you through an exciting adventure in sound and color. Kathy will provide individual guidance and encourage the use of alternate materials (that she will supply) for applying paints. \nStudents need to bring a few various sized canvases\, paints\, and brushes they would like to use. Kathy suggests acrylic paint. (Nothing really large\, please!) \nAt the end of the class\, you’ll have the opportunity to share your work\, learn from others\, and discuss your creative process. \nAbout Kathy Kosins: \nKathy Kosins is an interdisciplinary artist and a master of improvisation. Her art quite literally translates from stage to canvas. She may be best known for her successful career as a critically acclaimed jazz and soul artist\, yet all the while Kosins has been quietly gaining ground in the modern art world as well. \n“For me\, art and music are one in the same\,” Kosins says. “There’s no separation and there never has been.” Self-taught as musician\, composer and visual artist\, Kosins creates abstract acrylic paintings on canvas. A mid-century modern aesthetic has long inspired her work. Cubist and surrealist artists of the 1950s and 1960s inform her technique. \nKosins never studied art or music. Still\, she’s made a decades-long career in those fields. “My artwork is total improvisation\,” she says. “There is no preconceived composition.” At most\, Kosins may choose a color palette ahead of time. She believes in creating art when the moment strikes. That is exactly how she began painting from a live music stage. \nThose who have had the opportunity to see Kosins perform – and paint on stage – know it’s a rarity. Kosins often says she “hears color and sees sound\,” a condition known as synesthesia. As the band continues to play an impromptu instrumental on stage\, she applies color and strokes – each inspired visually by the interpretation of the music. The end result is an abstraction of the music being played. \nKosins is passionate about making art. Enough so that she created a clinic to guide aspiring or professional artists through the process itself. Titled\, “Improvisation on Canvas\,” Kosins has taught courses to students of all ages – at high schools\, performing arts schools\, colleges and continuing education courses across the country. \nKosins’ commissioned paintings are held in private collections throughout the US and Europe. \nCancelation policy: the Village Arts Factory will offer refunds minus the processing fees up to seven days before the class begins. Join us during the Farmers Market on Sunday\, October 12 as we get into the creative spirit and create custom fall doormats in celebration of the season. Select your stencils and paint colors\, and design a beautiful\, fall-themed doormat to decorate your classroom\, porch\, or mudroom. The cost is only $30 and includes all materials! The workshop begins at 10am at the Canton Farmers Market and will take approximately one hour to complete. You’ll be able to take your mat home with you that day! All mats are the same standard size: 18”x 30”. SUMMARY:Glass Fusion Workshop: Autumn Splendor
DESCRIPTION:Come join us at the Village Arts Factory to create your very own “Autumn Splendor” design at our October Glass Fusion Workshop! It’s the perfect opportunity to spend a relaxing evening crafting and enjoying the unique experience of working with colored glass. The cost is $42 per person and includes 2-hours of instruction. All materials will be provided and no previous experience is needed. The instructor will guide you through cutting and assembling the glass to make your beautiful sun catcher or nightlight just in time for the fall season to arrive. Approximately 3.5″ – 4.5″ in size. \nThis glass workshop is appropriate for adults of all ages and skill levels. On a scale of 1 to 10\, this class difficulty is a 4 so easy enough for a beginner. You will create your unique design by using a special tac glue as an adhesive. All projects will go home with the instructor to be kiln fired and will be delivered back to the Village Arts Factory in approximately 10-12 days. An email will be sent out to participants with pick-up instructions. \nPlease note: closed-toed shoes and covered drink containers are required. Sorry\, no snacks allowed. Food and glass do not mix! DESCRIPTION:This October\, the Village Arts Factory is proud to present the Three Cities Art Club Featured Exhibit. Founded in 1955\, the club has grown into a vibrant community of artists and art enthusiasts from across Southeast Michigan\, including members from Ann Arbor\, Chelsea\, South Lyon\, Belleville\, Milford\, and beyond. Over the decades\, the group has fostered learning\, camaraderie\, and creativity through workshops\, demonstrations\, and exhibitions. \nVisitors to the exhibit will encounter a wide variety of artwork across many mediums. The show includes paintings\, drawings\, and photography\, along with three-dimensional works in fiber\, clay\, wood\, polymer\, and collage. This diversity highlights the broad range of talent within the club and ensures there is something to capture the interest of every visitor. All pieces are available for purchase\, giving guests the opportunity to support local artists while acquiring original fine art at affordable prices. \nThe public is invited to the opening reception on Saturday\, October 4\, from 2–4 pm. Guests will have the chance to meet the artists\, enjoy light refreshments\, and experience the exhibit in a welcoming and creative atmosphere. \nDuring the exhibition\, visitors may also participate in the Popular Vote Drawing by casting a ballot for their three favorite works of art. Each vote counts as an entry into a drawing for a cash prize\, with winners selected at the close of the show. The Canton Cares Fund will also be hosting their annual Chili Cook-Off Contest during the event! \nYour tickets include: 7 tastings of local craft brews\, ciders\, and seltzers\, 2 grilled brats (vegetarian option available) with fixings\, pretzel necklace-making station\, water\, chili cook-off tastings\, commemorative keepsake mug\, and live music by Atomic Radio. Though each artist works in a different medium—colored pencil\, acrylics\, mixed media\, photography\, and collage—their artistic journeys intertwine around one shared subject: the mystery\, resilience\, and beauty of trees. \nFor Elena Adam\, trees are living magicians\, quietly shaping the world around us. Her vibrant works in acrylics and colored pencil reflect their silent strength and dreamlike presence\, inviting viewers to see trees as guardians and storytellers. \nSylvia Bandyke\, a photographer and collage artist\, finds in trees a symbol of continuity and healing. With roots reaching deep into the earth and branches stretching skyward\, trees remind us of balance\, grounding\, and endurance. Her pieces often layer stories and perspectives\, offering viewers a thoughtful and layered visual experience. \nFor Sharlene Welton\, trees are deeply personal—symbols of memory\, nurture\, and growth rooted in her family’s traditions and childhood. Through her acrylic and mixed media work\, she explores trees as protectors and givers\, their presence tied to both tender and bittersweet stories that connect people\, place\, and time. \nTogether\, these three artists—longtime friends and collaborators through the Dearborn Art Club—have created an exhibit that reflects not only their individual voices but also the bond between them. Their combined works celebrate the magnificence of trees: their mystery\, their magic\, their strength\, and their enduring presence in our lives. To mark the opening of this special exhibition\, the Village Arts Factory invites the community to attend an opening reception on Friday\, September 5\, from 6:00–8:00 PM\, where guests will have the opportunity to explore the artwork\, meet the artists\, and enjoy tasty bites and refreshments in a warm and welcoming setting. \nThe Magic of Trees will remain on public exhibit at the Village Arts Factory through Sunday\, September 28. DESCRIPTION:It is with great excitement that we announce the opening of registration for this year’s Agent Orange Awareness 5K Run/Walk in Cherry Hill Village\, presented by Jacob Matthew Jewelers! The race date has been set for Saturday\, August 23\, at 9:00am\, with a 1/4 Mile Fun Run taking place 30-minutes prior at 8:30am. As with last year\, a virtual race option is also available for those who would like to participate on their own time or from another location. The race will start and finish at the Village Arts Factory at 50755 Cherry Hill Road in Canton\, Michigan. Official race timing will be provided by Running Fit of Ann Arbor. \nThis year we are proud to announce that we have partnered with the VA Ann Arbor Fisher House for this event. Proceeds from the race will directly benefit the Ann Arbor Fisher House\, which provides cost-free lodging to families and caregivers of Veterans and active duty Service Members who are undergoing an episode of care at the VA Healthcare System in Ann Arbor. This incredible local organization works tirelessly to provide respite and home-away-from-home care for these families\, and we are proud to support them again this year! \nTake advantage of our Early Bird Registration for just $35 through July 31st.
