DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, September 5 for the art exhibit opening reception of “Of Land and Sea” by Shadia Derbyshire! Stop by the Village Arts Factory between 6pm and 8pm to view the exhibit\, meet the artist\, and enjoy a variety of light refreshments. The reception is free to attend and open to the public. “Of Land and Sea” will remain on public display at the Village Arts Factory through September 29\, 2024.\n\nAbout the Exhibit:\n\nShadia Derbyshire has been painting with acrylics for more than 30 years. “Of Land and Sea” features a selection of her latest series of seascapes and her signature treescapes. The poured acrylic seascapes feature unique textures and colors\, often accented with silver or gold leaf. The treescapes feature stark silhouettes of tree lines atop vibrant backdrops created with a mixture of collage and acrylic.\n\nAbout the Artist:\n\nAlthough Shadia works primarily in acrylics and collage\, her passion for and creativity with color is the true theme that runs through all of her work. With her latest collage work\, Shadia uses a selection of found papers\, tissue papers\, discarded sewing patterns\, origami and craft papers. These papers are then painstakingly hand-painted\, stained\, stamped and stenciled. Shadia then tears each paper by hand to ‘paint’ over her canvas\, resulting in dynamic and colorful pieces with unique pattern and texture.\n\n“For me\, one of the greatest experiences is looking at the piece I am working on and realizing I am looking at something no one in the world has ever seen before. It’s this experience that motivates me\, and that I yearn to share. My deepest creative desire is to bring to fruition a previously unseen vision of beauty and introspection through my art. DESCRIPTION:It is with great excitement that we announce the opening of registration for this year’s Agent Orange Awareness 5K Run/Walk in Cherry Hill Village\, presented by Jacob Matthew Jewelers. The race date has been set for Saturday\, August 24\, at 9:00am\, with a 1/4 Mile Fun Run taking place 30-minutes prior at 8:30am. As with last year\, a virtual race option is also available for those who would like to participate on their own time or from another location. The race will start and finish at the Village Arts Factory at 50755 Cherry Hill Road in Canton\, Michigan.\n\nThis year we are proud to announce that we have partnered with the VA Ann Arbor Fisher House for this event. Proceeds from the race will directly benefit the Ann Arbor Fisher House\, which provides cost-free lodging to families and caregivers of Veterans and active duty Service Members who are undergoing an episode of care at the VA Healthcare System in Ann Arbor. This incredible local organization works tirelessly to provide respite and home-away-from-home care for these families\, and we are proud to support them this year!\n\nTake advantage of our Early Bird Registration for just $35 through July 31st. The cost of registration will increase to $45 on August 1st\, so be sure to register early and take advantage of the Early Bird discount!\n\nEvery registrant\, virtual or in-person\, will receive a beautiful finisher medal as part of their registration. SUMMARY:Glass Fusion Workshop: Garden Ornaments & More
DESCRIPTION:We’ve partnered with Kiss My Glass to offer this fun and unique glass fusion workshop at the Village Arts Factory! Please join us on August 8th to create a summery glass design of your choosing! You can choose to create any design you’d like including birds\, insects\, flowers\, boats\, and sunsets\, for example. Finished projects can be displayed indoors or out; approx. size 4″ x 5″. The cost is just $37 per person. \nNo experience necessary and all materials will be provided. Let our fused glass instructor show you how easy it is to cut and design something beautiful with glass. This class is also appropriate for children age 10+ who are accompanied by a paid adult who will cut the glass for them. (Due to limited seating\, you will need to purchase registrations for both parent and child.) \nYou will create your design by using a special tac glue as an adhesive and all projects will go home with the instructor to be kiln fired and assembled and delivered back to the center in about 10 days. An email will be sent out when ready for pickup. Please let your friends and family know about the fun! \nCancellation Policy: Registrations may be cancelled and refunded up to 7 days before the date of the workshop. Due to the nature of this workshop and the need to purchase materials and supplies in advance\, we cannot offer refunds within 7 days of the workshop date. You may transfer your registration to someone else or receive a teacher-made finished project instead.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Village Arts Factory as our instructors from STEAMNSlime (formerly Challenge Island) show your kids what it takes to build the Sydney Harbor Bridge! With this construction theme\, the children will learn and utilize the scientific concepts of force and gravity. They will think through the challenges faced by engineers in building bridges\, such as the strength needed\, and what shape or design will be the strongest. Organized in groups\, the children will flex their art skills to create a harbor water scene that includes marine wildlife. Next\, they will build a bridge across their harbor that is at least 12 inches long\, consisting of at least 2 levels\, and testing it to see how much weight it supports. This is an awesome opportunity for your kids to learn how art\, physics\, and engineering can work together to create something fun and educational! DESCRIPTION:We’ve partnered with Kiss My Glass to offer this fun and unique glass fusion workshop at the Village Arts Factory! Please join us on June 18th to create this beautiful pinwheel garden flower; approx. size 15″ x 5″. The cost is just $39 per person. \nNo experience necessary and all materials will be provided. Let our fused glass instructor show you how easy it is to cut and design something beautiful with glass. This class is also appropriate for children age 10+ who are accompanied by a paid adult who will cut the glass for them. (Due to limited seating\, you will need to purchase 2 registrations.) \nYou will create your design by using a special tac glue as an adhesive and all projects will go home with the instructor to be kiln fired and assembled and delivered back to the center in about 10 days. An email will be sent out when ready for pickup. Please let your friends and family know about the fun! \nCancellation Policy: Registrations may be cancelled and refunded up to 7 days before the date of the workshop.
