It’s the perfect opportunity to spend a relaxing evening crafting and enjoying the unique experience of working with glass. \nWhen purchasing your ticket\, select from making a lavender night light or sun catcher. The clear base piece will be cut for you and we will work with glass that is easy to design with minimal cutting. The cost is $42 per person. All materials will be provided and no previous experience is needed. \nThis glass workshop is appropriate for children ages 10+ who are accompanied by a paid adult; tickets will need to be purchased for both adult and child. All projects will go home with the instructor to kiln fired and will be delivered back to the Village Arts Factory in approximately 10-12 days. SUMMARY:Art Exhibit Reception: Nature's Beauty
DESCRIPTION:Nature’s Beauty\, a solo exhibition by Courtney Crider\, is about celebrating the natural beauty of both people and nature – highlighting Black beauty in honor of Juneteenth. Courtney believes that every human is a beautiful creation\, formed by God himself. This Juneteenth\, she wants to highlight Black beauty alongside His floral creations. \nCourtney’s art is first drawn digitally\, freehand on a tablet with a stylus. Her work is then printed as giclee art prints with some of them hand embellished with a variety of materials. Creating mixed media artwork is a newer discipline for Courtney\, as she recently began experimenting with collage art and wanted to incorporate that with her digital paintings. This exhibition will be her first time unveiling her mixed media work to the public eye. Nature’s Beauty will feature new pieces inspired by florals and black beauty\, paired with old favorites that have been newly embellished with mixed media materials. \nA passage from the Bible\, Matthew 6:28-34\, is one thing that inspired this exhibition’s theme: “The lilies of the field neither toil nor spin\, yet they are beautiful as they are. God made them that way. And if even the wild grass is clothed with such beautiful lilies\, how much more will He clothe\, oh yes\, you? If God takes delight in His floral creations\, how much more joyful is He over the beauty of his human creations?” \nPlease join us for the opening reception of Nature’s Beauty on Monday\, June 2 from 6:00 to 9:00pm. All are welcome to come explore the exhibit\, meet the artist\, and partake in light refreshments. The exhibit will remain on public display at the Village Arts Factory through the end of June. DESCRIPTION:The Village Arts Factory is proud to welcome Detroit-based artist Marcia K. Hales for an extraordinary solo art exhibition this May\, titled Myriad Textures of Musings. The exhibit will feature nearly three-dozen of the artist’s signature\, abstract works. Join us for the opening reception on Tuesday\, May 6\, from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Browse the exhibit\, meet the artist\, and enjoy a variety of light refreshments. There is no cost to attend and all are welcome. \nAbout the Exhibit \nMyriad Textures of Musings\, a solo exhibition by Detroit-based artist Marcia K. Hales\, invites viewers into a dynamic interplay of depth\, movement\, and imagination. Known for her ability to transform space through abstract forms and layered textures\, Hales creates works that reflect her musings on everyday life and imagined experiences. Her newest pieces encourage the eye to dance freely across the canvas\, engaging both visually and emotionally. \nRooted in a lifelong passion for the handmade\, Hales began painting in her hometown of Farmington\, Michigan. Her artistic journey has taken her across the country—from studying and exhibiting in Massachusetts and California to settling in Northern Michigan for nearly two decades. Since 2020\, she has called Detroit home\, where she remains an active participant in the local arts community. \nHales holds an MFA in Design from UMass Dartmouth and has exhibited internationally\, with her work held in collections across the U.S.\, Mexico\, the Netherlands\, France\, and Turkey. She has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions and continues to be represented by Twisted Fish Gallery in Elk Rapids\, Michigan. \nIn Myriad Textures of Musings\, Hales offers a collection of recent linear works that blur the line between the tangible and the abstract. Inspired by fleeting moments—a forest of trees\, children at play\, or the imagined rhythm of music—her paintings serve as open invitations to explore\, reflect\, and\, perhaps\, get quietly lost within them.

For more information\, please contact us at: kevin.ryan@cantonmi.gov \n \nAbout the Artist: \nKathy Kosins is an interdisciplinary artist and a master of improvisation. Her art quite literally translates from stage to canvas. She may be best known for her successful career as a critically acclaimed jazz and soul artist\, yet all the while Kosins has been quietly gaining ground in the modern art world as well. \n“For me\, art and music are one in the same\,” Kosins says. “There’s no separation and there never has been.” Self-taught as musician\, composer and visual artist\, Kosins creates abstract acrylic paintings on canvas. A mid-century modern aesthetic has long inspired her work. Cubist and surrealist artists of the 1950s and 1960s inform her technique. \nKosins never studied art or music. Still\, she’s made a decades-long career in those fields. “My artwork is total improvisation\,” she says. “There is no preconceived composition.” At most\, Kosins may choose a color palette ahead of time. She believes in creating art when the moment strikes. That is exactly how she began painting from a live music stage. \nThose who have had the opportunity to see Kosins perform – and paint on stage – know it’s a rarity. Kosins often says she “hears color and sees sound\,” a condition known as synesthesia. As the band continues to play an impromptu instrumental on stage\, she applies color and strokes – each inspired visually by the interpretation of the music. The end result is an abstraction of the music being played. \nKosins is passionate about making art. Enough so that she created a clinic to guide aspiring or professional artists through the process itself. Titled\, “Improvisation on Canvas\,” Kosins has taught courses to students of all ages – at high schools\, performing arts schools\, colleges and continuing education courses across the country. \nKosins’ commissioned paintings are held in private collections throughout the US and Europe. After studying architectural drafting and construction management\, Ayoub explored her love for art through scholastic competitions in Lebanon\, where she received a first-place prize. For Ayoub\, art offers a vital escape from daily stress and serves as a channel to reflect on life’s unexpected wonders. \nAyoub’s recent decision to share her work with the broader community has been met with positive reception in local exhibitions\, earning critical praise for her unique approach. SUMMARY:Second Glances: Artists' Reception & Gallery Open House
DESCRIPTION:Second Glances is an artistic collaboration between The Gallery at Cherry Hill (Canton Village Theater) and the Fine Art Gallery at the neighboring Village Arts Factory. This eclectic and immersive exhibit features the works of 7 award-winning artists from Canton’s 30th Annual Fine Arts Exhibition\, adjudicated by juror Tom Hale in October 2024. Visitors to the gallery will delight in the variety of mediums on display including oil\, acrylic\, photography\, sculpture\, and collage. The exhibit is on public display at the Village Arts Factory and free to view through January 29\, 2025 For more information\, please contact: kevin.ryan@cantonmi.gov. \n— \nCome meet the award-winning artists in person at the Artists’ Reception and Gallery Open House on Wednesday\, January 15\, while enjoying an opportunity to view the works up close. SUMMARY:Glass Fusion Workshop: "Love Is in the Air" Glass Hearts
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Wednesday\, January 8 for this lovely glass fusion workshop where we’ll be creating colorful hearts just in time for Valentine’s Day! Participants can choose to turn their designs into a beautiful night light or sun catcher. The cost is $39 and all materials are included. This class requires simple cutting and is easy enough for a beginner.\n\nOur instructor Laurie with Kiss My Glass will show you how easy it is to cut and create with glass. This class is also appropriate for children age 10+ who are accompanied by a paid adult who will cut the glass for them. (Due to limited seating\, tickets will need to be purchased for both parent and child.) Projects will go home with the instructor to be kiln fired and will be delivered back to the Village Arts Factory the following week. An email will be sent out with pickup instructions.\n\nCancellation Policy: Registrations may be cancelled and refunded up to 7 days before the date of the workshop. Due to the nature of this workshop and the need to purchase materials and supplies in advance\, we cannot offer refunds within 7 days of the workshop date. You may transfer your registration to someone else or receive a teacher-made finished project instead.
