About the Exhibit
In Roots & Wings, abstract painter Deb Xavier-Grondin invites viewers on an introspective journey through identity, heritage, self-discovery, and transformation. Working primarily with acrylics and mixed media on paper and canvas, her vivid, expressive compositions serve as visual poems — layered with tension, contrast, and emotional depth.
Born from a deeply personal evolution, Xavier-Grondin’s work explores the complexity of being a woman, a mother, and an immigrant. Her paintings are at once grounded and expansive — rooted in origin, yet reaching toward possibility. Each brushstroke is a question, each piece a map of becoming.
Drawing inspiration from pioneering female artists like Frida Kahlo, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Lee Krasner, and Artemisia Gentileschi, Xavier-Grondin embraces art as both rebellion and homecoming. Roots & Wings is an invitation to reflect, to reconnect, and to rediscover the infinite layers that make us who we are.
